Shopping in Bodrum
Written by admin on July 7, 2008 – 7:07 pm -In the town of Bodrum, as well as in the other surrounding towns and villages, there exists a broad range of of shops and stores selling everything from local goods to gifts for tourists. It will probably take you a while to get your bearings, as you negociate the labyrinth of small streets and tiny alleys of the town, so it’s best you take the time to explore them proper.
Outside the town there are also a range of supermarkets, if you want to stock up on food, water or other provisions and you will also find shopping malls, such as the Oasis shopping mall
For a real Turkish experience, however, we suggest that you head to the market, either in Bodrum itself or in one of the surrounding towns or villages. Here you can find great bargains, buy fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables and you’ll also encounter merchants selling what appear to be designer label clothes at really low prices. The reason for this is simple, a majority of the clothes being sold are, in fact, knock-offs, and, whilst quality can vary, in many cases they’re actually indistinguisable from the genuine article. The same can be said about the watches. If you always wanted a Rolex but could never really afford one, then the market’s the best place to go. You’ll find watches that, for all intents and purposes, are identical to the real thing. One thing about the markets, though, be prepared for two things; be prepared for the hard - and I do mean hard - sell, and be prepared to haggle. Whenever a tourist enquires about a price, the merchant will invariably quote a very high one, so haggle for a bit. It’s all part of the experience, so you might as well enter into the spirit of it.
